I tried to fill out and submit the form on your "official website" and the form would not submit.

My name is Chandi and I met you in 2003 when you came to a "slow travel" lunch in Castellina that I was a part of. I am currently living in Colorado.

I am going to be walking across
Italy in June, from Cecina to Fano.
If I recall correctly you live in or near Castellina? My route will
take me to Castellina and through that area. I was talking to some Italians here in Boulder last night
and they said it is NOT safe for me to sleep in fields (a female by herself..) and thus I am trying to figure out accommodation and I
cannot afford alberghi every night. The walk will take me about 30 days. You can see info on my blog about why I am doing this. I am wondering if you might be able to put me up for a night when I walk through that area, or if you have
suggestions... friends maybe,
who would empathize with my walk and my reasons for it, and who might offer a place to sleep for a night....

Thank you so much Dario for your time and for considering this!

Sincerely,
Chandi Wyant
http://italiandreams.wordpress.comChandi Wyanthttp://italiandreams.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6913937129503634434.post-50014365318080703392009-03-28T03:37:00.000-07:002009-03-28T03:37:00.000-07:00Thank you Lala...in Tuscany we have a quote that s...Thank you Lala...in Tuscany we have a quote that states "Buon vino fa buon sangue"....good wine makes good blood.Dario Castagnohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16573827909463521423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6913937129503634434.post-37027233469978809262009-03-27T18:40:00.000-07:002009-03-27T18:40:00.000-07:00Ciao Dario! I have studied Italian architecture and art, so as you can image Tuscany is sort of like mecca for me. I will drop you a line when I head that way. Would love to take you up on that offer! I am, indeed, just now finishing "Too Much Tuscan Sun," and I have really enjoyed it. I can't tell you how many times I have laughed out loud. And I am laughing now remembering the viper story with the old tourists and the carabinieri asking if the half pig was dead or alive. I am an American, but I live now on the Amalfi Coast. For two years I have been dating a tour guide here who also works primarily with Americans, which means I have an inside knowledge of just what goes on. And you hit the nail right on the head! I really appreciate your sense of humor, and your ability to tell the stories that are funny without taking a negative viewpoint on Americans or without forgetting their good qualities. But, of course, for all those that come friendly and eager to see Italy, there are always the ones that comment that you can't find real Italian food in Italy. That was a good story, too! I just wanted to say thanks for writing such an enjoyable book. I look forward to reading some of your other books and your new one when it comes out. Sounds like a fun project! I haven't been to Tuscany before, but I hope to do some exploring up that way this coming summer. Looks like they interspersed stock footage of past Palio's with the shots they filmed when we were there. Crummy, but no, they didn't use the Bruco victory, probably because it happened later in the summer But, of course the Palio looked exciting and beautiful as did Siena. It was all too quick for my taste. They should have used more footage from Siena :-). Glad to hear you are thinking of writing again. Steve and I are coming back to Tuscany next fall. Just can't stay away. Sunday we have a banquet that will officialy end the Palio year...phew! we had assembly yesterday to decide the new captain...obviously we all know that Gianni was reconfirmed. I really have got to get back to writing, I have started a new book and have plenty ideas, I need to lay back and return to my world of silence to be able to achieve this new effort. I can't let you down, I feel a tremendous responsability. The parties are over friends. I promise to post some new pics meaning that I have to go and pay visit to all the photoshops in Siena and leaf through the piles of pictures one by one,Dario Castagnohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16573827909463521423noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6913937129503634434.post-3211101449175719672008-11-04T06:56:00.000-08:002008-11-04T06:56:00.000-08:00Today is election day.. Exactly one month ago...So today is the Complemese!! Exactly one month ago we won and we expect at least 700 folks at dinner all sucking at pacifiers. How do we do it? This is the intriguing part of the Contrada, sociologists come from all over to study this incredible sense of community. We have no catering, we do it ourselves simply by taking turns in the kitchen serving and cleaning up. You have fun in the Contrada but you must also volunteer to work sometimes. We always have a three course meal at the cost of 10 euros per person. We don't really bother about the menu, we simply try do do something different every day. I had the pleasure last Friday to have some Texan guests and they were shocked by the cameraderie and incredible sense of community. They had a mini culture shock I'm sure.
Bad news is that I shall not be able to have the DVD done in time for the LA presentation but wil be able to show clips of this historical victory. We have a Consortium in Siena that protects the event so, yes, James Bond was filmed in Siena and you will see the 2007 July Palio but with no interaction. That would not be allowed. More pics coming soon!Dario Castagnohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16573827909463521423noreply@blogger.com
